3-quick-tipsBelow is a quick list of things many business owners do not realise when they are updating or changing their website, use these tips to avoid any drops to your websites Google visibility.

1. 301 Redirect Old Pages to the New Equivalent

Instead of just deleting pages on your website which you think are no longer needed, double check these pages aren’t bringing you traffic and/or are ranking for a searchable term. If they are, its important you 301 (permanently) redirect the old pages URL to the new equivalent page, this will avoid any loss in rankings and traffic.

2. Make sure your Website only Resides at One Address/URL

This is easy to miss but can be important. If you can access your website from both the www version and non www version, it is advisable to either 301 redirect one to the other or access your Google Webmaster Tools account and tell Google which one is your preferred domain.

3. E-Commerce Website need Content like all others

Many E-commerces sites I see, still lack valuable content, its no good having a long list of products if there is no juocy content to help the search engine better understand what that page is about.
